Meadowbrook Basin in Summer (7/25/08)

In my opinion, the Meadowbrook Basin is one of the most beautiful places in Central New York.

When I die, I'd like to be cremated and have my ashes scattered on the waters of the Meadowbrook Basin.

Here are some shots I took at the end of July, 2008.

I spent a good part of my Friday evening, July 25, at the closing reception for the Contemporary Gallery.
There I had the good fortune to meet and chat with artist Brian Butler about his highly detailed, intricate drawings.
I also was fortunate to meet and chat with poet Lenore S. DeCerce (Lennie? Lenny?) about her work.
Later, I spent some time at the Orange Line Gallery, temporarily set up in a tent at Clinton Square as part of Jazz in the Square.
The Orange Line Gallery will once again be set up in a tent, this coming Saturday, August 2, as part of the Hanover Square Arts and Music Festival.
This gallery should have a more permanent home on Montgomery Street by mid-September.

Jazz in the Square - Thursday, July 24

Friday night's off-again/on-again/off-again rains temporarily damped the spirits of many folks who wanted to attend the Thursday night opening of Jazz in the Square. The heavy evening rains chased away the Syracuse Symphony and more than half the potential audience.

Still, for the 250 or so who remained til after the rain showers, the mainstage concert featuring vocalists Ronnie Leigh and Nancy Kelly was well worth the wait.
Ronnie and Nancy are two of the finest jazz vocalists anywhere.

On Tuesday evening, July 22, the Syracuse Photography Meetup Group (SPMG) had a get-together/group-shoot at the Regional Market, followed by a trip to near-by Onondaga Lake Park for a group-shoot of the sunset.

The SPMG brings together a great bunch of folks, all committed to doing their very best photography and then sharing their photos and ideas with each other.

Above are several of the photos I shot that evening. All members of the group who attended Tuesday's get-together will post their selected photos on the group's website.

To view the group's varied photos from many different get-togethers, plus innumerable other individual photos, plus more information on the Syracuse Photography Meetup Group, visit their website at
